LUX Wellness Center

LUX Wellness Center marks the Bainbridge Island debut of chiropractor Dr. Lauren Whittaker, who relocated her practice from Colorado and sought to create a calming, restorative space for her new community. Located in the Ericksen Avenue business district, the clinic began as a 1,000-square-foot shell space arranged in an L-shaped footprint. Harmony House was brought in to space plan the layout and deliver a full-service design solution that balanced functionality, flexibility, and a refined sense of calm.

The design needed to accommodate a welcoming reception and retail area, two adaptable treatment rooms, and a treatment-rooms and office space within a compact footprint. Harmony House developed a thoughtful layout that separates the public-facing areas from the clinical treatment spaces while maintaining a cohesive flow throughout the clinic.

01

Reception + Retail
A calming first impression.

The reception area establishes the tone for the entire clinic, creating a serene environment that reflects the restorative philosophy behind LUX Wellness Center. Natural light fills the space, complemented by carefully selected furnishings that incorporate rich gold tones inspired by the LUX brand identity. Curved lines and tactile materials soften the space, making the compact footprint feel expansive and welcoming.

A striking photographic artwork by a Kitsap Peninsula photographer captures a mesmerizing moment of birds in flight, offering patients a calming visual moment as they arrive. Over time, the space will continue to evolve as Dr. Whittaker adds to her personal art collection.

02

Treatment Rooms
Flexible spaces for healing

The clinic features two treatment rooms designed with flexibility in mind. A dividing wall was constructed to visually separate the treatment areas from the reception space, creating a sense of privacy while maintaining an open and welcoming atmosphere.

In the second treatment room, a modular hanging panel wall allows the space to adapt to evolving patient needs over time. This flexibility ensures the clinic can grow alongside the practice while maintaining an intentional and cohesive design language.

03

Lighting + Acoustics
Designed for patient comfort.

Lighting and acoustics were key components of the design strategy. While the space benefits from abundant natural light, the existing overhead lighting was softened with diffusers to reduce glare and create a more relaxing environment.

Layered accent lighting was introduced throughout the clinic, allowing lighting levels to be adjusted for patient comfort during treatments. Acoustic comfort was addressed through the integration of felt acoustic panels that function as artwork while reducing sound transfer throughout the clinic.

04

Architectural Details
Functional design elements.

Architectural features were thoughtfully incorporated to blend functionality with visual interest. In the back treatment room, a custom wood slat wall introduces warmth and texture while cleverly integrating storage with hidden shelving and hooks.

In the front treatment room, an oversized felt acoustic installation creates a striking visual moment while improving sound absorption. These elements transform practical solutions into intentional design features that enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of the space.

05

A Space for Restoration

The final result is a calming, clean, and restorative environment that reflects both the philosophy of LUX Wellness Center and the energy of its founder. Every design decision—from lighting and acoustics to materials and layout—was made with patient comfort and healing in mind.

The space now serves as a peaceful retreat in the heart of Bainbridge Island, perfectly aligned with Dr. Whittaker's approach to holistic wellness.
