Island Restoration

Tucked into a wooded Bainbridge Island property, the Beck Road Residence began as a charming but fragmented 1930s farmhouse that had been altered repeatedly over the decades. Rooms had become disconnected, the kitchen was cramped and inefficient, and the home had lost much of the quiet architectural character that once defined it.

Harmony House was engaged to guide a full restoration and renovation of the property, reimagining the home for modern living while honoring its early Pacific Northwest roots.

Over the course of the renovation, spaces were thoughtfully reorganized, architectural details were restored, and a warm palette of materials was introduced to reflect the surrounding landscape. The result is a home that feels both timeless and deeply livable—one where each room flows naturally into the next while maintaining its own sense of character.

01

Reimagining the Heart of the Home

The renovation began with a complete rethinking of the kitchen.

What had once been a series of disconnected spaces—a small kitchen, breakfast area, and laundry closet—was opened and reorganized into a single expansive room designed for cooking, gathering, and everyday life.

Custom cabinetry, honed quartz counters, and a professional-grade appliance suite give the kitchen the performance of a modern chef's space, while carefully layered lighting and warm materials soften the architecture. A limewashed entry wall introduces texture and depth, subtly anchoring the kitchen within the larger palette of the home.

Today the kitchen feels generous and welcoming, functioning as the natural heart of the house.

02

Dining + Entertaining

Just beyond the kitchen, the dining room was created by transforming what had once been a secondary living space.

The room now centers around a redesigned fireplace wall framed by built-in bookcases and detailed trim work. Board-and-batten paneling and carefully chosen wallpaper add warmth and architectural rhythm, while lighting was selected to create an inviting glow during evening gatherings.

An unexpected design moment emerges just beyond the dining room. The home's former front entry was enclosed and transformed into a custom bar, creating a dedicated space for entertaining that feels seamlessly integrated into the home.

An arched opening connects the bar and dining room, introducing a subtle architectural gesture that repeats throughout the renovation.

03

Living Room

The living room required careful rebalancing after decades of piecemeal changes to the house.

A small secondary kitchen that had been installed beneath the staircase was removed entirely, restoring the original scale and flow of the room. With the clutter removed, the living room could once again function as a true gathering space.

A sculptural wood slat wall now conceals a hidden storage door beneath the staircase, blending practicality with architectural interest. The lighting plan was redesigned to eliminate harsh track lighting and instead introduce softer, layered illumination that complements the natural light pouring into the space.

The room now feels calm, open, and comfortably anchored within the home.

04

Bathrooms

Each bathroom within the home was approached as its own design moment while still contributing to the overall character of the renovation.

The primary bathroom was fully reimagined as a quiet retreat, anchored by a walk-in marble shower, soaking tub, and a striking Bardiglio marble checkerboard floor. The layout was reorganized to improve privacy and daily usability while maintaining a timeless aesthetic.

Elsewhere in the home, more expressive palettes emerge. Emerald tile, marble mosaic flooring, and layered lighting bring individuality to the guest bathrooms while still maintaining the cohesive material story of the house.

Together these spaces balance beauty with everyday practicality.

04

Bedrooms + Private Spaces

Upstairs, several rooms were reconfigured to better support modern living.

A spare bedroom was transformed into a dedicated dressing room, while two additional rooms became separate home offices—spaces designed to support work while maintaining the warmth of the home environment.

The primary bedroom was refreshed with new textiles, lighting, and carefully selected finishes that soften the room and bring a quiet sense of comfort to the space.

Throughout the home, custom window treatments and layered fabrics introduce texture and warmth while framing views of the surrounding landscape.
