Bainbridge Play Cafe

The coffee bar anchors the space and serves as the heart of the café. Harmony House designed the layout to meet city code requirements while supporting efficient workflow based on coffee shop best practices.

Custom cabinetry and millwork frame the bar, which features a tile façade with a subtle wave pattern—a nod to the café’s playful under-the-sea branding. The bar is complemented by oversized woven basket pendants that introduce warmth and texture while creating a welcoming focal point for guests entering the space.

The member play area was designed as an imaginative yet calming environment for young children. Inspired by Montessori principles, the space is organized to encourage independent exploration and age-appropriate play.

Distinct areas include a soft baby zone, a reading nook with playful whale lighting, and a larger play area for toddlers through age six. Durable materials and open sight lines ensure the space is safe, engaging, and easy for parents to supervise while enjoying the café.

The seating areas throughout Bainbridge Play Café are designed to accommodate families, caregivers, and community gatherings. Built-in bench seating, flexible tables, and thoughtfully arranged circulation paths allow the space to adapt to a variety of uses—from casual coffee meetups to birthday celebrations and play sessions.

A small retail area offers curated items for families, seamlessly integrated into the seating zone so it feels like a natural extension of the café experience.

The design incorporates a Scandinavian-inspired neutral palette anchored by a serene green accent color, reflecting the café’s cheerful under-the-sea brand identity. Architectural details bring character and warmth throughout the space, including an arched doorway that creates a gentle transition into the play area, a sliding frosted glass door to the kitchen, and custom millwork that ties the entire interior together.

Lighting was selected to balance playfulness and comfort, combining statement fixtures with softer ambient lighting to create a welcoming atmosphere for both parents and children.

Harmony House produced a comprehensive construction package for permitting, which resulted in a fast permit approval with no questions from the city. Following a competitive bid process led by Harmony House, Fairbank Construction was selected as the general contractor.

Working in close partnership with Fairbank throughout construction ensured a smooth build process, and the project was delivered ahead of schedule and on budget.
